Warmer spring weather signals the start of the motorcycle season where motorcyclists are eager to get back on the roads and trails.

The Motorcyclist Confederation of Canada and their long-term goal is to make Canada the safest place to ride a motorcycle.

Safety tips for on-road riders

Ride sober: Impaired driving kills. Period. As with so many other forms of driving, drugs and alcohol severely impair judgement and reaction time leading to serious injury and death.

Watch your speed: Speed kills. Yes, motorcycles are fast but that does not give you permission to disregard speed limits or to overlook their responsibility to ride according to traffic, weather conditions or your ability.

Safety tips for motorists

Be alert: Motorcycles are smaller and harder to see than other vehicles you share the road with.

Check your blind spots: It’s hard enough to see cars and other vehicles when looking in your mirrors, always shoulder check before making a turn or changing lanes.

The Motorcycle Confederation of Canada is the national not-for-profit advocacy organization for the promotion of motorcycling interest. Visit web page here

Bear season in Canada and the United States has begun, with sightings in Alberta, British Columbia and Alaska. Sadly this past week a forestry working in B.C. 's central coast was mauled. A reminder that bears are waking up and companies working in bear country need to be trained and provided with the proper safety equipment. Luckily for this worker, another man on site was carrying bear spray and was able to stop the bear attack, saving the victim's life.

Image result for mumps

Outbreaks of mumps in Manitoba and the United States in the past several months are a reminder that vaccine-preventable infections, including mumps, are still a risk to health, including here in Alberta. To reduce the risk to your child, and our communities, we need to ensure as many Albertans as possible are up to date with their mumps immunization. This includes yourself, and your children.

The holidays are a great time of the year to give thanks for the things you have, and to give to those less fortunate.

This year, THOMAS Insulation Inc. donated $900 worth of groceries to the Calgary Poppy Fund &Veteran's Food Bank, as well as food, toys and cash to AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society)

We are very proud of helping those in need this time of year. A big Thank You to everyone who helped collect for these charities.

Happy Holidays!

Calgary Corporate Challenge is an Olympic-style event where employees, manager and volunteers throughout the city participate in a variety of athletic and non-athletic events.

Thomas Insulation Inc earned a spot this year by attending a lottery event held in April.  Not knowing what to expect, Thomas employees signed up for almost all sporting and charitable events and tackled every single one with passion and enthusiasm.

It all started in May with the Blood Donation Challenge and joining Partners for Life with the Canadian Blood Services. Thomas brought in 16 new donors who will continue to participate in blood drives throughout the year.

By June, office employees and Thomas’ friends were ready to ride the BIG BIKE for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and raised more than $4000 for that event.

On September 5th a Torch Relay marked the start to the Sporting Events and for the next few weeks office employees competed in the following: Bocce, Darts, Foosball, Horseshoes, Mini-Golf, Scavenger Hunt, Table Tennis, Truck Pull and Volleyball.

After all results were handed in, Thomas Insulation placed 8th out of 21 team overall, plus earned a Silver Medal in the Blood Drive, and Bronze Medals in Horseshoes, Scavenger Hunt and Big Bike donation challenge on their MINI Division.

A special thanks to all who participated in one way or another and helped Thomas Insulation’s rookie year in the Corporate Challenge a SUCCESS!!

Looking forward to next year!
